Susan
J. Vitucci
is the librettist, director, puppet designer, and performer of LOVE’S FOWL,
an opera in Italian with music by Henry Krieger. For her LOVE’S FOWL
puppets, she was nominated for an American Theatre Wing Design Award (NY
Theatre Workshop production). LOVE’S FOWL
has toured throughout the U.S. to venues including Spoleto Festival
USA, Portland (Oregon) Institute of Contemporary Art’s (PICA) TBA festival,
and the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College.
She has written, directed and/or
produced numerous special events for the 92nd Street Y, as well as for the Children’s
Museum of Manhattan and the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and
Art, among others.
Susan
has written and dramaturged many short plays for the
52nd Street Project,
a program which pairs children from
New York's
Clinton neighborhood with theatrical professionals to make theatre, and
edited the Project's 52 Pick-up: A Guide to Making Theater with Children
by Willie Reale. She serves on the
52nd Street
Project’s advisory board, is a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre’s
playwrights unit, has been a MacDowell Colony Fellow, is a New York Theatre
Workshop Usual Suspect, and holds an MFA from
the Yale University School of Drama.
She edits the
periodic fanzine and website for LOVE'S FOWL's puppet star
La Pulcina Piccola.
Susan is currently developing a new work,
SMALL FISH, with music by Mr.
Krieger.
